Sacrament of Confirmation

Confirmation deepens the spiritual rebirth accomplished in Baptism. This sacrament involves a special bestowal of the Holy Spirit to root us more deeply in the Christian life, inspire in our hearts increased love of Christ and his Church, and strengthen us to bear witness to the Christian faith in words and deeds. Like Baptism, Confirmation is received only once in a lifetime because in this sacrament we are permanently sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit through the anointing with oil.

Youth Confirmation

Confirmation for youth is usually received during 8th grade. In order to be confirmed, a young person must prepare through either the Religious Education Program of the parish or St. Thomas the Apostle School. This is a two-year preparation which requires proof of Baptism and depends upon regular attendance and successful completion of grades 3-4-5-6. Besides Baptism, the young person should also have received the sacraments of Penance and the Eucharist. In addition to reflecting on their faith in class, candidates are asked to participate in service projects and a day of prayer.

Adult Confirmation

Adults (over 18) who wish to receive the sacrament should contact Cindy, our adult initiation coordinator, at 516-489-8585 or [email protected] to discuss their specific circumstances.  CLICK HERE for more information.
