Minor CHANGE in PROCEDURES

Please note that after the new EM Handbook was prepared, the paragraph near the top of page 5, referring to returning ciboria to the altar, has been eliminated. We will return to the practice of placing the ciboria in front of the tabernacle when finished distributing communion, and the last person back, priest, deacon, or EM, returning all ciboria to the tabernacle. Please make that change in your Handbook.

WEEKDAY MASS -- Reminder

Remember, all three EMs at weekday masses should remain in the sanctuary after communion. They should process into the sacristy, in front of the altar server, at the end of the mass, with or without the cups. Also, when coming to the altar, please take your places on the step behind the altar, on the ambo site, where Cup Ministers stand on Sundays.

7:30 AM SUNDAY MASS

Since the 7:30 Mass was established in the middle of the last schedule, Donna has been assigning people to that mass who had volunteered to serve at the 7:00 or 8:00 previously. However, she’s not certain that all would wish to serve at the 7:30. Please let her know if you would like to serve at the 7:30 mass in the Chapel.

PYXES AND PRAYER BOOKS IN THE CHAPEL

Mary Seery has put some pyxes and prayer books in the sacristy of the Chapel for those who have forgotten theirs and need one when going to visit the homebound. If you borrow one please remember to return it as soon as possible. They are on the bottom shelf of the cabinet right above the sacrarium.

UPDATES

Getting back to the items we discussed at the meetings this summer --

Terry cloth towels are available for use to dry the sacred vessels, in the Church sacristy, in the third drawer below the purificators. Put them into the hamper after using. It’s felt they are not needed in the Chapel as there are not as many items to dry.

The tray for the Cups in the Church -- Didn’t think it would be so difficult to find. They’re not in any religious article catalog. We’re still looking elsewhere though.

Still talking about the possibility of dismissing homebound EMs at the end of Mass.

Host minister will continue to sit in the sanctuary.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Volunteers will be needed to serve at the Masses on:

the Feast of the Immaculate Conception (Friday/Saturday, Dec. 7/8),

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (Monday & Tuesday, Dec. 24/25), and

New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day (Monday & Tuesday, Dec. 31/Jan. 1)

Please call Peg Murphy anytime from now on, to volunteer to serve on any of these days.

Miscellaneous Items

Many of you attended the "wedding" that I did for my class and had videotaped last June. Again, I'd like to thank you for attending. It was finally shown in class in October, and Sister Mary Alice Piil, our instructor, was shocked to see so many people in the assembly, and commented favorably on it. My classmates had 2 or 3 people, at most, in attendance, in addition to their wedding parties. And their wedding parties were usually just bride, groom, best man, maid of honor. My classmates, too, were surprised at how many parishioners came out for me! I again thank you. It was an indication of the support that I've had from the parish since I've begun my formation for the diaconate. It means a great deal to me.

On Saturday, October 27, I was installed as an acolyte at the Seminary. Beginning the following day, I have been able to serve as an "instituted Acolyte" (or just plain Acolyte!). Contrary to what I had told you at the meetings this summer, I am now an Ordinary Minister of the Eucharist, meaning that I should serve before an "extraordinary" minister does. I had thought that I wouldn't be "ordinary" until ordination. However, as much as possible, until ordination, I will try to be on the EM schedule so as not to "bump" someone else. Please though, refer to the bottom of page 6 in the new EM Handbook, "Procedure for when a deacon is serving." This means too, that I may serve communion at weekday masses also. I hope that you will understand if you are ever "bumped."

At a 10:30 Mass on recent Sunday, there was a big mix-up among the EMs. It seems that the 3 host ministers, and 3 of the 4 Cup ministers had signed in. Those of us not assigned immediately realized that 1 more EM would be needed. However, at the sign of peace, NO cup ministers went up. Therefore, 4 EMs from the pews went up to substitute, long after the host ministers had already taken their places and the ciboria were at the altar. Then, two of the assigned came up, very late, creating an "overload" of EMs. The Precious Blood was poured late, and then it seems there was difficulty in determining what communion station people were to go to. And then finally, the last host EM back, didn't notice that all ciboria were back and in front of the tabernacle, so they were left outside the tabernacle. Fortunately, an EM sitting near the tabernacle, got up and put the ciboria away and closed the tabernacle. I think that all of this mix-up could have been avoided if everyone would go over the EM Handbook. If Cup EMs would come up promptly after the Sign of Peace, that certainly would have avoided the situation we had with extra EMs.
